    Jan Ophus|Mar 13, 2024

by Jan Ophus Mary Kay Kountz started writing "BROCKWAY BRIEFS" in 1991. She writes about forty of these entertaining, interesting, gossipy columns each year. It's high time we Banner loyalists got to know this prairie chronicler a little better. JO: Tell us about yourself, Mary Kay. Your parents and siblings, your own family. MKK:...

With over a million words in the English language and nearly 500 words being both a noun and a verb. What a great privilege to meet both requirements and as action and an object. Faith to own it or to act it out. You must have one to have the other. You can't have faith without being faithful. When talking about God's love, a friend mentioned the word “commitment,” and it got lodged in my head and led us here. In thinking about commitment, my hubby came to mind. The dude is committed. He's also detail-oriented, observant, and thorough. (You've heard “opposites attract.” Well, it's true. Pray for the man.) In the time we've been married, I've come to expect him to fix things. Basically, he fixes the things I break. Let's just say he has job security. He can back up semi-trucks into narrow spaces and use a welder to make things....

Ranchers are gearing up for calving season which for many, is just around the corner. Some producers calve earlier than others, and hopefully the weather will cooperate and those newborns will have warmer temperatures welcoming them when they hit the ground. Warmer temps are predicted and it would be nice if some of these icy patches will disappear. No one wants to slip, fall and be stoved up when there's work to be done. Gus Kamp, Brockway Supper Club proprietor, had one of his knees replaced last week. Hopefully by now he is on the fast...
