  • A Drink in Every Hand

    Marcie Brost|Jan 25, 2023

A drink in every hand was not what Shayne Merry, (who prefers an orange), had envisioned when he joined the Army reserves and met some life-long friends, one of which he has created a unique website. Josh Rakowski, (prefers an apple), was a roommate in the reserves, and they have maintained the friendship to the present day. They have created a webpage that is getting a lot of attention. Shayne explains that he started a spreadsheet of Montana Breweries, distilleries, he had visited, with notes...

  • A 100 Years of McCone County Update

    Connie Eissinger|Jan 25, 2023

The Centennial committee appreciates all of those who have sent in family/business/community/ organization histories. Thank you! Yes, I'm still working on the book. Many have asked, “Have we missed the deadline?” I will be working on this book this winter and hope to finish it up by next winter, so I am setting the deadline to be March 31, 2023. There's just so much to collect and it's been difficult to reach those who don't live here or who don't get the Circle Banner, the Terry Tribune, or the Wolf Point paper. Please keep sending the his...

  • Follow In Faith

    Candace Erickson|Jan 25, 2023

When I was about 20 years old, a friend and I were down in Oklahoma shopping at a mall. We wandered into a store and walked around for a few minutes. As we left the store, my friend turned to me and said she was glad to leave as being in the store made her feel icky. (My word - she probably said something much more intellectual sounding.) She then asked if I felt it too. I lied and said, "Yes." I know I shouldn't have lied, but I was embarrassed to admit I didn't "feel" anything, although I understood why she did. What we discovered in that...

  • Notes From Nelson

    Ken M. Nelson, County Extension Agent|Jan 25, 2023

The Three Stages of Parturition As the spring calving season approaches, an increased understanding of the parturition process is helpful. The more we understand about the physiology of the process, the more likely we are to make sound decisions about providing assistance. Parturition or “calving” is generally considered to occur in three stages. The first stage of parturition is dilation of the cervix. Cervical dilation begins some 2 to 24 hours before the completion of parturition (2 to 6 hours are most common). This first stage is lik...

  • Brockway Briefs

    Mary Kay Kountz|Jan 25, 2023

It's been a bit foggy out there! And it's not all brain fog. An old wife's tale predicts there will be rain or some kind of precipitation 90 days after a fog, so maybe a foggy January means a wet April! Farmers and ranchers would welcome that. There was beauty in the aftermath of the fog with a heavy frost covering everything, creating a sparkly winter wonderland. There were some electricity outages due to frost on power lines and some slippery walking and driving conditions. Brockway whist report for 1/15/23 by Pat Breitbach. Eight intrepid...

  • Tea With Tester

    Marcie Brost|Jan 25, 2023

Wednesday January 11th, I sat down and had a lunch meeting with Senator Jon Tester. They had reached out to me earlier in the week and asked if I would like to interview Mr. Tester. Being new to this world of journalism, without thought said yes. Then realized he has been interviewed by "professionals." Did some research asked around and discovered Mr. Tester support level in McCone County is not that great. Many comments were "he is against Montana," "he is all about big money," "he is a...
