TWO CENT GAS TAX IN EFFECT SINCE APRIL 1

The state tax of two cents a gallon on gasoline sales, provided by the law passed by the last legislature, went into effect April 1, supplanting the one cent a gallon tax which had been in effect since January 1, 1921. During the 27 months that the one-cent a gallon tax was in effect more than half a million dollars was collected by it, of which two-thirds went into the state general fund and one-third to county school funds in proportion to the number of teaching positions in the schools of each county.
