Gun Group Pushes Firearm Safety

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Montana Shooting Sports Association (MSSA) has published a statewide list of active firearms safety instructors. MSSA intends to make it easier for those seeking firearms safety instruction to connect with an active instructor and obtain instruction.

MSSA's list of firearms safety instructors is located on the MSSA Website at:

MSSA President Gary Marbut commented, "We believe all gun owners should be competent and safe with their firearms. We encourage all new gun owners to seek firearms safety training, and for more experienced gun owners to maintain and upgrade skills with appropriate training."

Marbut also expressed frustration over entities that wish to ban or restrict guns but advertise themselves falsely as "gun safety" entities when they actually have nothing to do with firearm safety. "MSSA" Marbut clarified, "is actually a firearm safety advocate, unlike some anti-gun entities hiding behind a misleading 'gun safety' claim."

MSSA continues to search for active firearm safety instructors to add to its online list.

Since beginning Montana's Shooting Range Development Program in 1988, MSSA has worked steadily to insure that all Montana communities have safe and suitable places for Montana gun owners to shoot and train with their firearms. In over three decades of Montana shooting range development, local clubs have invested more than an estimated $20 million into safe shooting ranges across Montana.

MSSA estimates that something over 90% of Montana households contain firearms. "Montana is a pretty gunny place," Marbut said, "which is why we have such a vibrant gun safety culture here. Because of the high density of firearms in Montana, we want firearm safety training opportunities to be widely available."

MSSA is the primary political advocate for Montana gun owners. Since being founded with that mission over 30 years ago, MSSA has gotten 71 pro-gun bills through the Legislature and enacted into law. A partial list of these MSSA successes is posted at:
