Brockway Briefs

February 7, 2024

Extremely cold weather and unusually warm conditions created a temperature spread of over 100 degrees during the month of January in McCone County. While it is enjoyable to have an over 50 degree above zero day in January, especially after -65 degree wind chills, one wonders whether there will be enough moisture in the ground this spring when farmers begin planting. Winter isn't over yet, so don't put those Carhartts and muck boots away for another couple of months.

There was a full house at the 2024 Circle Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Banquet held January 27th at the CCM banquet room. The Chamber was able to raise $9225 to give to the Circle Cinema thanks to attendance, donated auction items and contributions. Bob Gates entertained the crowd with his Comedy in Motion act, CCM prepared a delicious prime rib dinner, the Corner Bar catered the bar and Mountain Country Band provided dancing music. Mid-Rivers Communications helped sponsor Bob Gates. It was a very enjoyable event!

It's a busy time for Circle athletes. CHS wrestlers competed at the Divisional Meet in Wolf Point this past weekend in hopes of sending some wrestlers to the State set for February 8-10th. No updates at this time. AAU wrestlers have been busy competing as well. Jamboree basketball is underway and the Wildcat basketball teams are winding down the regular season. The last home game and senior night will be February 10th when Circle meets up with Dodson. Good luck, Wildcats!

Speech and Drama students, under the leadership of Susan Erlenbusch, attended the State Speech and Drama meet recently. All four competitors, Remy Stempel, Blake Lobdell, Ashlee Leeson and Adrienne Tilton, made it to the semifinals. Remy placed 7th and Blake finished in 8th place in their events. Congratulations!

Roger and Connie Eissinger enjoyed visiting with Jan and Eileen Ophus while they were in Billings recently.

It was time for some fun in the sun for Josh and Kerry Eissinger as they were in Cabo for several days recently. Eissinger Equipment was among the Ford Northwest dealers that won vacation trips. They enjoyed whale watching, sailing and good food while in Cabo.

Ramsey Bailey and Tanner Cudd from Houston, Texas were in the area for several days recently. They arrived in time to catch up with friends and family at the Chamber Banquet January 27th. On the 28th, Mary Kountz hosted Ramsey and Tanner, Irene Berger, Cary and Tina Phillips and Falynn, Clay and Sherry Berger, Tim and Deanna Rittal and Greg Berger for lunch, target shooting and football games. They enjoyed some axe throwing, pretty country, a very competitive game of Monopoly and just hanging out with family. Mary joined them for a steak dinner at Phillips on the 30th. Ramsey and Tanner headed to Billings and Big Timber to visit Rob and Jane Bailey and Cooper, Matt and Kaylee Kleinsasser and daughters, Rhett Bailey and Raquel St. John, Carey Schneider and Shae Fisher. Ramsey is employed by Chevron and is the Lead Field Engineer for the Deepwater Conqueror, a deep water drillship on contract in the Gulf of Mexico. Tanner also works in the oil business at an equipment supply company.

Brockway whist report for 1/28/24 by Pat Breitbach. It was a wonderful evening to gather for the usual good time at the Brockway supper Club for the 6 pm whist party. We had 12 players so the games kicked off promptly at six p.m. There was not much to report on the table tawk front as local happenings stalled out with the cold snap but on the card playing front, it was an all ladies night as Barb Smalis took first place firmly in hand with a five win score sheet followed by Shirley Heitz in second and Kay Rene Whiteside in third. A delicious snack of oatmeal raisin cookies was provided by Kay Rene and Barb sponsored a variety of appetizers to help overcome the bitter taste of defeat from the palates of the rest of us “also rans”. All in all it was another good time at this worthwhile entertainment event worthy of adding to your social schedule!
