McCone Library Awarded Grant

December 6, 2023

In October of this year, McCone County Library was awarded a grant from the Pilcrow Foundation. This grant required matching funds that were donated by Redwater Valley Bank. This foundation double matched your funds, so our library was able to get new hardcover books to increase our collection. The Pilcrow Foundation also selected us for two other programs. These books included a collection of health and wellness books donated by Dr. Bill Strawbridge and Melissa Wallhagen of California and a collection of science and nature books by Mr. Hal Berenson and Ms. Laura Ackerman. Altogether, our library was the recipient of 112 brand new books including board books, picture books, beginning reader books, and chapter books. There are non-fiction books about dinosaurs, emotions, biology, and history. There are picture books about farms, tractors, chickens, and horses. There are whimsical books about cats, dogs, and a toddler whose sole only is NO! Among my favorites is a picture book with no words that shows the history of the Lascaux cave paintings. It is a truly gorgeous book and sure to show kids and families the transformative power of art. Books about other cultures, in other languages, books about books, and even a choose your own adventure fairy tale picture book round out the collection.

We encourage the community to stop in and visit. We will be hosting an open house on December 15th. Stop in for a cookie and to scope out all of our changes!

Thank you to Redwater Valley Bank and Jana Hance for helping to make this possible!
