Montana High Schools Participate in 'Acccounting Opportunities Experience' during the month of November

HELENA, MT – The Montana Society of CPAs (MTCPA) is pleased to announce the second year of Accounting Opportunities Experience, a collaboration between state CPA societies and the national association - American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) - to raise awareness of accounting career opportunities among high school students. This initiative will last the entire month of November, and was recently granted a Governor's Proclamation as 'Certified Public Accountants Month' in Montana.

Montana CPAs will visit high schools throughout the state to discuss with students what it is to have a successful career in accounting. The presentations, outreach, and support materials will work to raise awareness of the accounting profession, discuss the CPAs personal career stories, explain the exciting and challenging roles that CPAs play in the business world, and what they can do with a degree in that field - encouraging students to consider the profession.

This year, participating high schools include: Alberton School, Belgrade High School, Centerville Public Schools, Chinook Schools, CMR High School, Corvallis High School, Custer Public Schools, East Helena High School, Florence-Carlton High School, Frenchtown High School, Glacier High School, Glasgow High School, Helena High School, North Star Schools, Opheim High School, Plevna Schools, Ronan High School, Sentinel High School, Sidney High School, Simms High School and Skyview High School.

The presentations also make the students aware of the resources and scholarship opportunities available through the Montana Society of CPAs. Each year, the Montana Legacy Foundation offers scholarships to qualifying accounting majors in Montana. These scholarships are generously funded through contributions from members of the MTCPA and other private donors. Students are eligible for these scholarships once they reach junior level at a participating Montana university.

“CPAs are the unsung heroes of the business world,” said Allen Lloyd, CAE and Executive Director at the Montana Society of CPAs. “The MTCPA appreciates the recognition from the Governor of the integrity, objectivity and professionalism of thousands of Montana CPAs who help foster economic growth across the state.”
