First Year Wrestler, First Female to get Scholarship

Maddy she may be small, but she is fierce. Soft spoken and a self-proclaimed clutz, but put her in a wrestling stance and she is calm, cool and collected. Maddy Black is the first female from, Circle High School to receive a wrestling scholarship. Not only was Maddy awarded Athletic Scholarship but academic scholarship as well. She will be going to Morningside University, Sioux City IA. I sat down with the Maddy and asked her why wrestling? She explained that she had 5 brothers and was always wrestling and fighting with them. Her family moved to Circle, from Idaho, her sophomore year. She had been active in gymnastics prior to the move. As a Wildcat, Maddy has played Volleyball her Junior and Senior year. This was her first year wrestling and she proved to be a natural. Maddy is active being in Student Council, BPA and Yearbook. I asked if she sees herself as a tomboy, she snickered and said yes, coming from one tomboy to another. She complimented the wrestling coaching staff several times thru our talk and encourages parents and student to wrestle. Her favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:31 "She who Kneels before God can stand before anyone." Her biggest influence is her mom, "She is my biggest supporter, even when she was going through tough times, she was still supportive and encouraging." Maddy prefer an orange over an apple. Her favorite movie Is Maverick-Top Gun. Her funniest moment and most embarrassing moment she just laughed and said there were to many to list. In College she will be majoring in Biology/Chemistry. She will do something in physical therapy or exercise science. She did mention her Coach Taylor had mentioned she was going to the Olympics. So Maddy Black you go wrestle the world and bring a medal home. We all wish you the best of luck!
