The Circle Banner - Anyone can love the mountains, but it takes a soul to love the pairie

McCone Sheriff's Departmen has a couple knew Deputies. I was able to ask a couple questions. The first Deputy I pinned down to interview was Deputy Jerrett Smidt who has been with the Depastment for awhile but was at the Montana Law Enforcement Acemedy for ? days. Jerrett grew up in Miles City. MT He is married, no children, and last I heard he is looking for a house to move his lovely bride to our "Circle" of Life". Jerrett worked for Rossevelt County Sheriffs office as a Detention Officer for two years. He decided to go to the patrol side and was hired on at McCone Sheriffs office. His biggest influence was his Grandfather. His favorite movie is Black Hawk Down. If Jerrett could talk to anyone dead or alive, he would sit down with Peter Hathaway Capstick, who I had to Google. He is a famous Hunter, fisherman, author, and a major supporter of gun safety. Mr Capstick also Authored Jerretts' favorite book Death in the Long Grass. The funniest moment he has witnessed in law enforcement was watching a co-worker fall into a ditch. He prefers an orange over an apple. Jerrett has a favorite quote of, We fall. We break. We fail. But then, we rise. We heal. We overcome.

Our newest Deputy is Trevor Derkson, who hails from Arizona. I mentioned to Trevor at my other job (dispatching) that I would like to interview him for the Banner. Next thing I know he pulled up a chair and said "what yaw anna know". So impromptu interview what I do best. Trevor and his Wife, Cindy moved here from AZ. Cindy is the current Manager of the Travelers Motel. HE told me how they met, and it's quit a tale. They met in 1984 and life took them in different directions, then they re-connected in 1988 hey connected again but not for long, live swooped in again. But, in 1994 they connected and have been together ever since. Trevor grew up in Redwing WI. His history consists of being a Police Officer in WI, a Military Officer and his most current job was that of a school teacher in AZ. His biggest influence is "Mamma, I'm a Mammas boy, she was always there for me, but let me make my own decisions and make mistakes that would learn from." He prefers and apple over an orange and was excited to share he makes a good apple pie. Trevor has been a deputy nearly a month. He comes with experience and knowledge to our department.
