Brockway Briefs

March 29, 2023

There was a large crowd watching beautiful young women and handsome young men parade the runway during the Grand March at the Prom held at CHS gym March 18th. This year's theme was “Shipwrecked”. Jaron Taylor and Alexis Moline were crowned king and queen of the prom.

The annual Fireman's Ball was held March 18th at the VFW with music provided by Miles City band, Stolen Roan. Door prizes were drawn and a space heater donated by C&B Operations was auctioned and donated back several times with funds going to the local fire department. Shennum Construction donated a couple loads of gravel for auction and those also provided some revenue for the department.

Congratulations to Ryan Moline, a member of the MSUB Track & Field team, on breaking a school record! She set a new school record in the javelin with her throw of 41.6 m (136'6”) to beat the old record by seven feet. She also finished second in the hammer throw at the Yellowjackets/Battlin' Bears Icebreaker Open March 19.

Recently Harvey Bieber's cousin, Heidi BeLaFuentes and sons Aiden, Johan and Karsten and nephew Merrissimo, were guests at the home of Harv and Jerilyn Bieber. Heidi's father was Elsie Bieber's brother. The young men enjoyed being out at the farm during their spring break from school in Bozeman. Chad Bieber, Cord and Kristin Bieber and family joined them for a get together March 19th at the Bieber home.

There were quite a few from the area attending the Eastern Montana Concert Association's concert “Vinyl Radio” March 23. The four piece band played rock group songs of the seventies. Darlene Moline, Shirley Heitz, Deanna Brost and Ruth Melvin rode together to Glendive. Clay and Sherry Berger and Mary Kountz had dinner with Irene Berger before attending the community concert.

Carey Schneider and Vangie Tebeau of Billings were guests of Mary Kountz March 18th. They enjoyed going to the Grand March and also attended the Fireman's Ball. Before they returned to Billings on the 19th, Clay and Sherry Berger and Greg Berger joined the ladies for brunch at Mary's.

Making a quick trip to Brockway March 24th were Matt and Kaylee Kleinsasser and Izzy of Big Timber. While they attended the Prayer Service for Vonnie Guldborg , Izzy entertained her Grandma Mary Kountz. Kleinsassers spent the night and then headed out bright and early for Custer where Izzy was in a 3/3 basketball tournament.

Brockway whist report for 3/19/23 by Pat Breitbach. We backed the usual start time up one hour at the request of a couple of the usual suspects to accommodate a busy schedule and wish to sincerely thank the staff at the BS Club for accommodating us in this temporary change. Even at that, a couple of players skidded in a few minutes late to fill out the third table in play. But the games went on in earnest none the less, and soon the back room was filled with the riffle of cards shuffling and the happy chatter of Table Tawk as the evening progressed. The last week's weather was less than ideal for ranchers getting into calving season as blustery winds and accompanying snow accumulations were a persistent pattern as winter clings stubbornly to its icy grip on the plains of eastern Montana. It is not an unheard of situation, but that doesn't make it any less wearisome. A couple of the local Brockway high school athletes are setting records in the track meets, winter vacation tourism highlights and last, but by no means least, just which chair is in actuality the lucky one dominated the discussions around the three tables of play. But after all the tricks had been accounted for, it was a pair of five games won score cards that rose above the pack and I am happy to report one of these cards belonged to the Brockway Mystery Lady who combined good luck, great partners and skillful play to circle five winning games. Unfortunate for her though, this humble reporter was also in possession of a five card streak on his score card so the total points were tabulated to settle the dust. Pat Breitbach ended the night in the lead with five wins and 39 points leaving Darlene Moline in second with five wins and 34 points. Cassie Wagner rounded out the winner's circle with a total of four winning games. Next week we are back to the usual 6 pm start time. Hope to see everyone there!
