Are you over 70 Share You HiSTORY

Are you over 70? Do you have a life worth of stories to tell? Are you interested in connecting with young people? If so, you are just what the Senior Civics Class at Circle High School is looking for. Our local seniors have been participating in The Democracy Project. This project is funded by grant money from the Charles Englehard Foundation and sponsored by Humanities Montana.

Humanities Montana is our state's local humanities council. It was founded in 1972 and is one of 56 across the country. It is a non-partisan organization that promotes learning and sharing ideas across the state, It sponsors book clubs, public speakers on the arts and educations, and projects like The Democracy Project.

The goal of this project is to promote civic engagement in young people by encouraging voter registration, knowledge of how our government functions and how to successfully advocate for things that they care about, and how to engage with their elected officials more effectively.

Our students have chosen to interview local senior citizens for their project. They are looking for McCone County residents who are in their 70's, 80's, 90's, and above to ask them their experiences going to school, serving in the military, participating in local or state government, voting, and more.

These interviews will be edited into a documentary and shared with the community sometime in the summer.

If you would like to participate in our Democracy Project, or know someone who does, please contact Mary James at the McCone County Library at 406-485-2350 , email [email protected], or connect on our website http://www.mcconecountylibrary.org .
