Some 500 years before the birth of Christ, Cyrus, King of Persia, allowed the Jews to go home to Israel after having been exiled in Babylon for some 70 years. They were commissioned by Cyrus to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple of God. This had been prophesied by Isaiah some 200 years earlier.
